i am a multidisciplinary artist and designer who strives to create innovative objects, experiences, and visual stories. i utilize empathy, perspective, synthesis, experimentation to guide my thinking. schooled as an engineer, i am technically competent and enjoy exploring the human aspects of complex systems. i am at my best when getting my hands dirty, value the importance of process, and understand the necessity of iteration to create.
while i am always continuing to find my design identity, here are a few things that currently guide my thoughts:
i study the between lines of design, engineering, and business which i think is best surmised by the principles of Design Thinking. part upbringing, part curiosity, and part passion, these disciplines have shaped my perspective and continue to influence my life.
design and art are two different things, but the two are not mutually exclusive. both require different processes and lead to different outcomes, but both require hands on making and creativity - my crux of existence.
i want to optimize everything i interact with. now, i would argue that complete optimization is impossible to achieve. but, the journey towards that goals is the joy!
i think arrangement is art.
the idea of balance. i am heavily influenced by Buddhist teachings and the fundamental concept of walking the line in between. not only in a spiritual way, but through every endeavor, i try to find the balance.
balance is usually visualized by opposites, think yin and yang. the dichotomy of order and chaos, the battle between nature and manmade - all help form my thinking and are extremely influential in my work.
the idea of the Readymade. anything can be art. altering things that already exist. i quite like when people look at a work of art and think 'I could do that.' hopefully one of those people will go out and be inspired to make a change of their own.
the Bauhaus movement and the idea of 'the whole work' -Gesamtkunstwerk. aesthetic and everyday function are deeply interconnected. 'design' is in everything manmade.
